Oprah on End of Talk Show: "I Know When It's Time to Say Good-Bye"

November 20, 2009

The rumors are true! The queen of daytime, Oprah Winfrey, is ending her talk show on Sept. 9, 2011, just as the show will mark 25 years on the air.

"After much prayer and months of careful thought, I have decided that next season, season 25, will be the last season of The Oprah Winfrey Show," the tearful talk show host said during Friday's show. She reflected on her 24 years on the air — the show debuted on Sept. 8, 1986 — and thanked viewers for inviting her into their living room, kitchens and lives. "I love this show. This show has been my life. And I love it enough to know when it's time to say good-bye."

So why is she pulling the plug? "Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and it feels right in my spirit," she explained. "It's the perfect number — the exact right time. So I hope that you will take this 18-month ride with me right through to the final show."

However, she didn't touch on how she's launching her own network — Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) — or if she'll begin a show, with a similar format to fill the void.

Oprah ended Friday's show by saying that over the holiday hiatus, she'll be working with her staff to come up with a grand finale, of sorts.

"My team and I will be brainstorming new ways that we can entertain you, and inform you and uplift you when we return here in January," she said. "And then season 25 — we are going to knock your socks off. So, the countdown to the end of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' starts now and until that day in 2011 when it ends, I intend to soak up every meaningful, joy-filled moment with you."

Glad she is off the air. Her ratings hit bottom when she started hanging out with slut Jennifer Aniston who used Oprah to sell a fraud book and also when Jennifer used Oprah to talk shit about Angelina Jolie. We became instant haters of Jennifer Aniston and vowed not to support JAniston.

Why is she spending so much money in Africa? When people in this country made her famous. I bet people in LA., Miss, or any hurricane state, would love a roof over their head. Or any person who just lost their job and home. I know she can't help every one. But Africa didn't make her famous. America did. Maybe America should just tune out and let Africa watch her.
