Who's in it: Hal Holbrook
What's it about: An elderly Southerner (Holbrook) escapes from a nursing home and tries to reclaim his family farm from the people who are renting it.
First dibs: Holbrook plays a man with more secrets than would seem possible - one who starts out seeming like a mistreated senior who is justified in taking back what's his. But the loner with a cause gives way to something more complex in this surprising drama about facing the end of life. Holbrook adds so many layers to the character that you can't help but sympathize with him, even at the point that his quest seems misguided. It's a finely etched character study without a lot of plot - but the story is right there in the lines of his face. It's a great performance by a well-loved actor.
Long story short: You may want to give your dad a call after seeing this.
