Who’s in it: Will Ferrell, John C. O’Reilly
What’s it about: When their single parents marry each other, two 40-year-old losers who still live at home (Ferrell, O’Reilly) must share a bedroom as part of the blended family.
Monotonous: Blended? These juvenile idiots mix together like chocolate and ketchup. They both act like spoiled 10-year-olds unwilling to play nice with each other – and then they become best buds, united in their hatred of Ferrell’s snarky, successful younger brother (Adam Scott). And that’s the whole movie. The gags fall into two categories: ridiculously foul language and outrageously gross slapstick. Is Will Ferrell funnier if he cusses? Not so much. (They really earn their R rating when Ferrell teabags O’Reilly’s beloved drum set).
There's so little real story that it’s like a “Saturday Night Live” skit doped up on human-growth hormones. The same punchline gets pounded into the ground over and over, occasionally interrupted by moments of random stupidity. Guys will wet themselves at some of the dumb comedy, but these lumpy doofuses are most women's worst nightmare.
Long story short: You may laugh – but you’ll hate yourself afterward.
