How to Seduce Difficult Women
Rating:
Who's in it: Rachel Roberts
What's it about: A Frenchman, author of a book about having confidence with women, works with a class of American losers to improve their skills.
Man up: You've seen this one before - the nerd with no skills who gets game after a few simple lessons from the master. In this case, the master is a French author in America, who is cheating on his wife even as he promotes his book and teaches his class. The students are all adult men with various problems that have the same root: lack of self-esteem. He teaches them to feel worthy, but writer-director Richard Temtchine can't find a way to make the movie seem worth your time. Despite some interesting editing that mixes classroom scenes with real-life experiences (and even some documentary interviews), the men are all stereotypes - and not particularly funny stereotypes, at that. Ultimately, the message is a simple one: It's not that women are too difficult but that men are too easy.
Long story short: It's difficult to find the laughs in this one.
