Fantastic Mr. Fox

By Marshall Fine

Rating:

Who's in it: The voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray

What's it about: In this stop-motion animated film, a fox jeopardizes his family's safety because he can't stop stealing chickens from a local farmer.

Animal instinct: Mr. Fox (Clooney) is married and has promised his wife (Streep) that he'll give up his thieving ways to protect their family. But his animal nature won't be denied - and when he starts robbing a vicious local farmer, the farmer (Michael Gambon) declares all-out war. This film by Wes Anderson ("The Darjeeling Limited") is a clever, quirky battle, with a cast of animals (voiced by actors including Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe and Adrien Brody) that are delightfully human. The stop-motion animation is wonderfully expressive and imaginative, guaranteed to captivate kids and entertain adults in equal measure.

Long story short: This comedy is crazy like a fox.
